Learn Calq: a building from A to Z / Part 3 The brief
Bring in the brief
Read the client's schedule of accommodation from Excel or a CSV into the Programme drawer, check what was read and accept it.
You will bring in the brief of the worked project, eight lines of shops, common rooms and flats, and set how the model will be measured against it.
Every room is measured by the rule the brief states: Net room area (inside the finish faces of what bounds it), IPMS 3 (the International Property Measurement Standards, to the internal dominant face) or NIA as RICS counts it.
The files this lesson uses: brief.csv
01Open the schedule
Open the Rooms toolset and choose Programme: the Programme drawer opens. Keep the Brief owner role (the four roles are the last lesson of this part), press Open an Excel or CSV file and choose the schedule. The file this lesson uses is offered above, to follow along.
A schedule has one row per kind of room: its code, its department, its name, the quantity and the area of each, and, where it says so, the storey, the access zone, what it sits next to, a tolerance and a note. Titles, headings and subtotals are read as what they are.
02Check what was read
Nothing changes until you accept. What Calq read counts the lines and, against any brief already in the model, those added, changed, removed and the same. Which column is which shows how each column of the file was read: pick another column for a field Calq read wrong, or Not read to leave it out.
Storeys are read the way schedules write them: G or Ground for the ground floor, L1-L3 for the three above, and in French RDC and R+1 à R+3.

03Accept it
Press Accept 8 lines. The brief is listed by department, each line with its code, its name, how many and how big, a bar of what is designed against what is asked, and how many of its rooms are placed. Rooms that meet the brief, at the top, counts the rooms of the model that meet their line: with no room drawn yet, it is 0.
04How it is measured
How it is measured sets the rule every room is measured by (Net room area, IPMS 3 or NIA) and the tolerance a room may be off its line, 10% unless a line says otherwise. Each time a schedule comes in it is a revision of the brief, listed with its date and its file, and every change is written in the brief's history with the role that made it.
The register as Excel, at the foot of the drawer, hands the brief and its check out as a workbook.
