Learn Calq: a building from A to Z / Part 10 Checks and data

Check the model's information

Check what the model holds against what its milestone asks, on the IFC it exports, and find each object that falls short.

On the sample house, you will read what the spatial coordination milestone asks, check the model against it, select what falls short and check it again at the next milestone.

The level of information need follows ISO 7817-1 and the milestones of ISO 19650. The requirements are checked on the IFC4 file the model exports, and the same requirements download as an IDS 1.0 file (buildingSMART) that other tools read. This lesson works on Calq's sample house: the Do it in Calq button at the foot of the page opens it.

01What the milestone asks

Open Standards from the Data menu and its Info need tab. Milestone says where the project stands: here 3 Spatial coordination, every building element classified and its role stated, for the other disciplines.

Open What this milestone asks: the detail of the geometry (medium, 3D), its location (absolute), its appearance (colour), how parametric it is (type) and the documents the milestone delivers, from the general arrangement plans to the IFC Reference View model.

Info need: the milestone and what it asks of the model.

02Check the model

Press Check the model at 3 Spatial coordination. Calq writes the model's IFC and checks each requirement on it. Under Result, the first line sums it up: here 22 of 26 requirements met, 10 objects short.

Each requirement follows with how many objects meet it out of those it applies to: Spaces are named 15/15, Walls are classified 21/21. A triangle marks a requirement short; a dash, one that applies to nothing in this model (the house has no columns).

The result: 22 of 26 requirements met, 10 objects short.

03Find what falls short

Click a requirement marked with a triangle: it opens with what it asks and each object short of it, with the reason. Here Slabs are classified is met by 3 slabs of 5: the stair landing and one build-up have no Uniclass 2015 code.

Press Select the 2 in the model: they are selected in every view, ready to be given their classification in Properties. Check again and the line is met.

A requirement short, opened: what it asks, and each object short of it with the reason.

04The next milestone

Choose 4 Technical design under Milestone and check again: the same model is held to more (materials, fire and thermal performance, every opening marked), and the result says what it now lacks: here 30 of 38 requirements met, 48 objects short.

Download as IDS hands the milestone's requirements to another tool as an IDS file. Check an IDS file reads one another party sends, and checks this model against it the same way.

The same model checked at 4 Technical design.
You should now haveThe model checked at a milestone on its own IFC, the objects short of a requirement found and selected, and the next milestone tried.
