Learn Calq: a building from A to Z / Part 6 Rooms and interiors
Rooms
Place a room in a space with one click, every room at once, split an open space with a separator, then name and number them.
You will place the rooms of one of the worked project's flats, 12 x 8 m, split its open living space in two and name the living room.
ISO 4157-2 numbers rooms by their storey: Place rooms numbers each room it lays that way (1.01, 1.02 ... on Level 1), and the number goes to the schedules, the tags and the IFC.
01One room, one click
The flat's walls are drawn (Part 5): an outline of 12 x 8 m, a partition 7 m from its west wall and another across the east part. Open the Rooms toolset and choose Room, then click inside a space: Calq finds the walls round the click and lays a room that fills it, here Room 1 of 18.2 m2, its area written under its name.
A room is bounded by the walls round it, so it follows them: move a wall and the room and its area follow. A dashed door and a "this room has no door yet" note are Calq expecting what comes next: Tab keeps it.
02Every room at once
Place rooms, under Make it for me, lays a room in every closed space of the storey that has none, each numbered by its storey. Here the open west space becomes Room 1.01 (53.7 m2) and the south-east space Room 1.02 (18.2 m2).
The rooms of a brief are laid another way, from the Programme's tray, each born linked to its line: see the lesson The brief on the plan, in Part 3.
03Split a space without a wall
Room 1.01 is one open space for living and the kitchen. Choose Separator and draw a line across it where one ends and the other begins: a separator bounds rooms like a wall but builds nothing. Press Place rooms again: Room 1.01 stops at the line (33.7 m2) and the space beyond it becomes Room 1.03 (20.0 m2).
04Name and number
Click Room 1.01 and open Properties, Full. Type its name, here Living: the plan follows at once, and the name also gives the room its Function and its Uniclass 2015 code (SL_45_10_49, living rooms). Number keeps the number Calq gave it unless you type another, Department groups rooms for colours and schedules, and Finishes says what its floor, walls and ceiling are.
