Learn Calq: a building from A to Z / Part 9 Drawings and sheets
Dimensions
Let Calq dimension the plan by its scale, see what each scale draws, and add a dimension of your own in three clicks.
On the sample house you will turn the plan's dimensions on, watch them follow the scale, and dimension the living room by hand.
This part works on Calq's sample house, a two-storey house with its plans, elevations, sections, schedules and 3D view: the Do it in Calq button at the foot of the page opens it.
01Turn the dimensions on
Set the ground floor plan to 1:100 with the scale on the view strip and press Fit. Then open Show on the strip and turn on Dims: Calq draws every string the plan calls for, to the doors and windows, to every wall that meets the outside, across each room, and the overall lengths.
The strings are bound to the walls: move a wall and they measure again. The Dimensions line of the key turns on with them.
02The scale decides what is drawn
Change the scale on the strip and leave the zoom alone. At 1:50 the lettering is finer and the plan shows more; at 1:200 the strings thin out to those that still read and the small rooms are numbered into the key. Here the plan goes to 1:50, then 1:200, then back to 1:100.
The scale is the drawing's, never the zoom's: zooming shows the paper larger or smaller, and the scale menu says how large it is on screen against the size it prints.
03Dimension by hand
Open the Annotate toolset and choose Dimension (DI). Click the first point and the second: each snaps to a corner, a face or a grid line and stays bound to it. A third click sets where the string sits. Here the living room is measured from wall face to wall face: 5.46 m.
04The cursor line
While Dimension is in hand, the cursor line at the foot of the board says what the next click does and sets what the string measures (auto, aligned, horizontal or vertical) and its type (linear, angular or radial). Press Escape or the palette's arrow to put the tool down.
Dim plan, in the same toolset, lays the plan's strings as dimensions of their own, bound to the walls; Dim grid in the Datums toolset chains the bays of the grid.
