Learn Calq: a building from A to Z / Part 7 Editing the model

Offset, align, array and scale

Lay a wall parallel to another at a typed distance, line walls up, repeat one at a spacing, and scale a whole room.

In the shop unit, you will lay a wall 1.5 m inside the west wall, line up two cross walls, repeat one three times and make the whole room 1.2 times larger.

01Offset

Choose Offset (OF) and hover the west wall from inside the room: a parallel copy follows the cursor. Type 1.5 to lock the distance and click: the copy is laid 1.5 m inside the wall, cut to the walls it meets. The tool stays armed for the next wall.

Alt + click moves the wall itself by the distance instead of copying it.

Offset: a copy of the west wall laid 1.5 m inside it.

02Align

The two walls across the room are out of line. Choose Align (AL) and click the reference, the wall across the west half: a dashed guide runs along its line. Then click the wall to bring onto it: the wall across the east half slides onto the same line, its ends still on the walls they meet. Each further click aligns one more; Esc picks a new reference.

Align: the east cross wall slid onto the line of the west one.

03Array

Select the wall to repeat and choose Array (AR). On the cursor line set Count to 3 (the wall itself and two copies), then click a base point on the wall and where the next copy goes, here 1.5 m south: the copies follow at the same spacing.

Array on the cursor line also turns the row into a radial array round a centre.

Array: the cross wall repeated three times at an even spacing.

04Scale

Draw a box round the whole room to select it, and choose Scale (RE). Type a Factor on the cursor line, here 1.2, and one click is the origin, the south-west corner: the room and everything in it grow 1.2 times from that corner, 13 m by 7 m becoming 15.6 m by 8.4 m.

With no factor, Scale takes three clicks: the origin, a point, and where that point goes.

Scale: the whole room 1.2 times larger from its south-west corner.
You should now haveA wall offset by a typed distance, two walls aligned, a wall arrayed and a room scaled.
