Learn Calq: a building from A to Z / Part 7 Editing the model
Move, copy, rotate and mirror
Select what to change, drag it, drop a copy, turn it about a point and copy it across a line.
In a shop unit 13 m by 7 m with a partition across its middle, you will move the partition, copy it, turn the copy 30 degrees and mirror it across the room.
01Select and move
Click a wall to select it: it is washed in red, its ends and its middle carry grips, a bar of the tools for it stands over it, and temporary dimensions read its distance to the walls either side. Press on the selected wall and drag: it moves, and the walls it meets stay joined to it. Here the partition goes 2 m west.
The arrow keys nudge the selection 0.05 m a press, 0.5 m with Shift. Ctrl + click adds to the selection, Shift + click takes out of it, and a box drawn from empty paper selects what it holds. Move, the first tool of the Edit toolset, moves the selection the same way and never draws.
02Copy
Hold Ctrl as you drag and the wall stays where it was: a copy drops where you let go, here 4 m east, joined to the north and south walls like the first. The temporary dimensions read where it lands.
Under With the selection, Copy (CO) puts a copy beside the selection, Similar (CS) arms the drawing tool with the selected element's kind and type, and Same type (SA) selects every element of its kind and type in the project.
03Rotate
With the copy selected, choose Rotate (RO). Click the centre of the turn (the middle of the wall), then a point to turn from (north of it), then a point at the angle: here 30 degrees clockwise. The angle is read beside the cursor as you go.
A wall keeps its ends on the walls it meets: turned, the copy stretches to reach the north and south walls again, 8.01 m long.
04Mirror
Select the turned wall and choose Mirror (DM). Click two points on the axis, here the room's centre line from the north wall to the south: the mirror image of the wall lands across it, and the wall itself stays.
Every one of these is one step: Ctrl + Z takes it back. To try a part of the model another way without losing the first, use Options in the same toolset (the lesson Design options of Part 4).
