Learn Calq: a building from A to Z / Part 14 Mastery

Commands and the keymap

Give a command a code of your own, draw by typing lengths in the cursor line, take a tool again from the right-click menu, and keep a script as a tool of your own.

You will change the wall's code and put it back, draw two walls by their lengths, take the last tool again and read the right-click menu, then see where your own tools are kept.

01A code of your own

Part 0 opened the list of every command with ? (Shift + /). Type in its search to narrow it down: here "wall" leaves the wall, the arc wall, the wall foundation and the wall face snap, each with its code. Click a code and press two letters: Q then W, and the wall is QW from then on. A code of your own is drawn outlined, with reset beside it to put back the default; Reset all, at the head of the list, puts back every code.

A code that another command already holds is refused, and the list says which command holds it. A command Revit has no key for offers set a key: give it one the same way. Your codes are kept in this browser and work on every model. Click the search field and press Esc to close the list.

The commands searched for wall, the wall's code changed to QW, then put back.

02The cursor line

The cursor line, along the foot of the board, names the tool in hand with its options, and takes the figures you type. Take the wall (WA) and click where it starts. Point the way it runs, type 6 and press Enter: a wall 6 m long. Point up and to the right, type 4 and press Enter: the next wall, 4 m, from the end of the first, at the angle the cursor gives. Esc keeps what is drawn and a second Esc puts the tool down.

The cursor line also holds the wall's options before you click: its mode, height, thickness, top, location line and type. With nothing in hand, Enter takes the last tool again, and the board says so: Enter - Wall again.

Two walls drawn by typing 6 and 4, then the wall taken again with Enter.

03Repeat and Recent

Right-click an empty part of the drawing with no tool in hand. The menu opens with Cancel, then Repeat with the last tool in its brackets, here the door, and its code RC, then the tools you used before it under Recent, here the opening and the wall. Zoom to fit and the Properties panel close it, each with its code. Right-click an element and the menu adds what can be done to it: hide it, select all of its kind, duplicate it, zoom to it.

While a tool is in hand the right-click opens its own menu instead: finish, close, take back a point, discard, put the tool down.

The right-click menu on an empty drawing: Repeat [Door], the recent tools, Zoom to fit and the Properties panel.

04Your own tools

On a model saved to your account, Data > Scripts opens the Scripts drawer: JavaScript run on the model with the same tools Calq AI uses. Run it, and whatever it changes is one step to undo. Keep it as a tool, with a name and a sentence that says what it does, on one of three shelves: mine, the project's or the office's.

A kept tool runs again by name, for you, for Calq AI and for the assistants you connect to Calq. A guest board has no Scripts: save the model first.

You should now haveA code changed and put back, two walls drawn by their lengths, the last tool taken again, and you know where a script becomes a tool of your own.
